Artists: Marla Lewis & Les Julian

Grand Prize winners of the 9th Annual Great American Song Contest are Marla Lewis and Les Julian, two talented and imaginative songwriters who specialize in Children's music.

Their delightfully original "Mighty Jackie (The Strikeout Queen)" became an instant hit with the judges, who praised the song as "colorfully entertaining, well-crafted and charmingly accessible" to audiences of all ages.

Marla teaches Music and English as a Second Language in the New York City school system. "I find that 'hands-on music' is a powerful motivator for children, and makes language learning a breeze," she says.

"For the past 20 years I've performed my music in schools, libraries, and parks in all five boroughs of New York City, as well as in Long Island and Westchester County."

Les Julian has traveled a similar road in his songwriting career. He likes to write songs that "both entertain and educate" and often performs at school assemblies, festivals, small theaters, concerts and Special Events.

Marla and Les have both produced amazing CDs, all of which are available at the websites below.
